Kaarthistorie
De nieuwe reeks Kaarthistorie belicht de rijke geschiedenis van de cartografie in de Lage Landen. Talloze cartografen, kaartenuitgevers, landmeters, ingenieurs, cartografische instituten en bedrijven zijn in deze regio actief geweest en miljoenen kaarten, atlassen en globes zijn er geproduceerd. Belangwekkende evoluties in meetmethoden, kaartproductie en kaartgebruik hebben zich er voorgedaan. Kaarthistorie wil het brede scala aan onderwerpen uit deze rijke geschiedenis toegankelijk maken voor een breed publiek van geïnteresseerden, kaartenliefhebbers en vakspecialisten en streeft daarom naar een perfecte balans tussen kwaliteitsvolle afbeeldingen en teksten. De reeks bestaat niet alleen uit monografieën, maar staat tevens open voor boeken bij cartografische tentoonstellingen, over kaartencollecties of handboeken. Diverse onderwerpen, invalshoeken en tijdsperioden komen aan bod, voor zover deze betrekking hebben op de kaartgeschiedenis van de Lage Landen tot omstreeks 1950.
Kaarthistorie wordt uitgegeven in samenwerking met WBOOKS. Het eerste deel in de reeks is in 2023 verschenen. Het is een verderzetting van de bestaande reeks Explokart Historisch-Cartografische Studies, waarvan komende jaren nog enkele delen zullen verschijnen.

The new Explokart series Kaarthistorie (translated: ‘Map History’) highlights the rich history of cartography in the Low Countries. Countless cartographers, publishers, surveyors, engineers, cartographic institutes and companies have been active in the Low Countries, where millions of maps, atlases and globes have been produced. During this period, important evolutions with regard to surveying methods, map production and map use have occurred. Kaarthistorie wants to make this wide range of subjects from the rich cartographic history of the Low Countries accessible to a wide audience of both specialists and those interested in map history. The series will therefore strive for a perfect balance between high-quality images and texts in its publications. The series not only publishes monographs, but is also open to books related to cartographic exhibitions, map collections and handbooks. Various subjects, perspectives and time periods are discussed, as long as they relate to the history of maps in the Low Countries until about 1950.
Kaarthistorie is published in collaboration with WBOOKS and the first part of the series is published in 2023. Kaarthistorie is a continuation of the existing Explokart Studies in the History of Cartography, of which several parts will still be published in the coming years.
